Description Mike Hammill 2010-04-11 16:58:07 UTC
Openafs 1.4.11 with the newly stablized gentoo-sources kernel 2.6.32-r7 gives kernel panics similar to those mentioned in bug #282196, although this problem is not supposed to exist with 1.4.11, as I understand it. In case this is some other sort of panic, I will paste in the messages I get in my particular situation. I experienced no problems with 1.4.11 and the previous stable 2.6.31-r10.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build 2.6.32-r7
2. Rebuild openafs-kernel 1.4.11 with new kernel
3. See panics in, for example, /var/log/messages

You need at least openafs 1.4.12 for linux-2.6.32
Comment 2 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2010-04-13 20:16:39 UTC
Indeed. Resolving CANTFIX

You of course should handle this as you see fit, but I think it's more appropriate to make this as a duplicate of bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310627, since indeed Gentoo make a kernel stable without a stable openafs even being in the tree. Alternately, you could make bug #310627 ICANTFIX and to indicate you have given up on supporting OpenAFS in Gentoo at all.
Comment 4 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2010-04-13 23:54:54 UTC
It might be worth considering adding a kernel version check to openafs-kernel-1.4.11, so that unsuspecting users won't run into this problem.

Comment 6 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-06-21 23:12:33 UTC
openafs-kernel-1.4.12.1 should fix things
