Perhaps we could expand the package.mask or ebuild format to specify that a
package does not compile under GCC 3 yet. This would allow creation of some sort
of hybrid GCC 2/3 compiler-swapping system, enhancing performance significantly
without having to worry about often critical packages choking on GCC3. What do
you think?

profiles already allow us to do this.
