Gentoo Linux Localization Guide recommends to "Look for your timezone in /usr/share/zoneinfo" instead of usage of rather long ago present in Gentoo tzselect utility (part of sys-libs/timezone-data). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Read the "1. Time zone" section of the guide. :) Actual Results: Look for your timezone in /usr/share/zoneinfo. Expected Results: Something like (excuse me my English): Use tzselect utility to detect your timezone name.
And one more: (First copy the proper zone to localtime) # cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Brussels /etc/localtime Really copy? May be better to make a symbolic link: ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Brussels /etc/localtime

There are many other bugs explaining why we copy stuff rather than symlink, as Lars said. Also, we won't be using tzselect, because you still have to look inside /usr/share/zoneinfo for a timezone anyway. So it's not really any additional work to just copy the desired timezone.
