Description William Swartzendruber 2010-04-08 19:01:04 UTC
PulseAudio crashes due to an assertion failure when ALSA's A52 plugin returns -EAGAIN.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Using /etc/asound.conf, add a PCM channel that uses the A52 plugin.
2. Disable hardware detection in PulseAudio and configure it to use this PCM only.
3. Start PulseAudio with "pulseaudio --system -vvv"

Actual Results:
Assertion failure.

Expected Results:
Successful daemon start.

I manually removed the assertion line from the relevant PulseAudio source file. All apps that then attempted to use PulseAudio errored with "Entity not found."

I would also like to add that the PulseAudio team firmly maintains that ALSA is to blame here. A ticket for this is currently open in ALSA's tracker, but has been ignored for some time now. I have received no help from IRC, other then to contact alsa-devel, but I have received no help from them either.

Please add a link to the ALSA tracker ticket, and the output of emerge --info.
