After these steps the merge now completes, resulting in... a python binary that crashes and then immediately relaunches itself in a loop.
Ok, here's what I'm seeing so far. If LDSHARED is ld, the bootstrapped python.exe for building works but the extensions fail to build because ld doesn't understand -DNDEBUG. After removing -DNDEBUG ld complains about missing references to functions found in libm and libdl. Adding -lm and -ldl leads to extensions failing with: /opt/gcc.3.3/bin/ld: warning: cannot find entry symbol ___PosixProcessStartup; defaulting to 00001000 Using LDSHARED="ld --shared -lc" builds the extensions but at the end of the build they claim to have failed with messages like: *** WARNING: renaming "_struct" since importing it failed: build/lib.interix-6.1-x86-2.6/_struct.so: unable to read file header: No such file or directory Changing LDSHARED to gcc or gcc --shared produces Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?) LDSHARED="gcc -ldl -lm -lc " produces /usr/lib/x86/crt0.o(.text+0x28): undefined reference to `_main' So, what exactly should be used to link the modules?
this has been fixed a long time ago IIRC. at least, python 2.6.5 builds fine for me on interix 6.1
Yay :) I did notice though that the _sockets extension needed -lbind added while linking though.
