would like to become a new rsync mirror server name: mirror.tucdemonic.org ipaddress: 128.196.95.10 Chris Mathis 1628 E. helen St Tucson, AZ 85711 520-626-0630 work 520-990-0370 cell
We're currently close to our maximum amount of US portage mirrors. Right now, I'm guessing it'll be about a week (possibly 2) before I'll know for certain. If you don't mind waiting for a while, that would be great. Also, what does the server have for CPU & RAM? What about upstream bandwidth? Thanks.
AMD Athlon 900 w/256 Megs SDRAM never gotten enough outgoing bandwidth to be able to tell exactly what we have, though we are supposed to have 100 Mbit. the ram on this will possibly be increased shortly to 512. It is also hosting a debian mirror (low trafic at the moment), i also have a full distfiles mirror though i am having problems with ibibilo & rsync.
100Mbit is fine, we just want to avoid DSL/Cable connections as they are rarely enough (5Mbps/full duplex is the minimum). What kind of problems are you seeing with ibiblio?
when i go to ibiblio.com::gentoo in my rsync it was erroring out on me, i think i found the problem. ibiblio is not mirroring on the above location from what i can find out. it is at distro.ibiblio.org::distros/gentoo. the web page may need to be updated or if i am wrong please let me know
I don't see ibiblio.com:: referenced in the source mirror guide or the download mirrors page. Is it somewhere else? rsync www.ibiblio.org:: and distro.ibiblio.org:: seem to work ok for me.
i was using the www.ibiblio.org sorry... its the last part of it, distros/gentoo, the plain, gentoo, i am having problems with but it may just be me/my fun machine... 2. Implementation details for new source mirror requests, the procedure will be as follows: Set up your server to rsync with www.ibiblio.org::gentoo. Once you have a complete mirror of that server, please file a bug report on bugs.gentoo.org under the "rsync" category stating that you have a new mirror and wish it to be added to the list of official mirrors.
We can try adding the rsync mirror if you'd like. I've added 128.196.95.10 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. You should be able to sync in about 30 minutes. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Post back here when you've done so and I'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine. How are things with ibiblio?
i set it up to sync. it seems to be working fine. as far as ibiblio it seems ok just having to set it still to hit the distros/gentoo but it seems to work fine. other than that but again the regular rsync seems to be working great.
OK, I'm monitoring the portage mirror now. Will let you know how that goes. How do you have the source mirror configured? I went to mirror.tucdemonic.org, then http://mirror.tucdemonic.org/gentoo/ which is the distfiles part, but I don't see the snapshots directory for partial mirroring.
problem on my part have to update my paths whoops
fixed now.
Great. I'll send some instructions on how to access our private distfiles mirror. Once you get that configured, we'll get the mirror info added to the web page.
it seems to be up and running now. both the rsync and the distfiles. please let me know if i should change my times for the distfiles. i have it going through cron like this: 00 4,8,12,16,20,0 * * * /usr/local/sbin/rsync-gentoo-distfiles.sh the time on this system is Arizona time. i think that is on mountain time right now but i cant remember exactly.
That looks good for the source mirror. Will try to add it this PM. The portage mirror seems to be only syncing once per hour though. Is the cron job for it set to run every hour at :00 and :30?
once again my fault i thought i had the crontab setup proper but didnt. had it only syncing at 30 past the hour. fixed now.
I've added a listing for the source mirror on the mirrors page. Should show up shortly.
Forgot to mention, I'm going to add the rsync mirror earlier than normal too see if there is room in the .us rotation. If it works, it will be rsync8.us.gentoo.org. Please update the motd file to include that information.
Mirror seems to be OK. Thanks for supporting Gentoo Linux.
I've subscribed <bugs-gentoo@tucdemonic.org> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. Thanks again.
