Description Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-04-05 17:21:52 UTC
I used my Sony Ericssons' modem + nm-applet to connect to inet. Since I upgradted to Networkmanager-0.8 my modem is not detected anymore. Downgrading to 0.7 makes my modem works again

Please let me know if you want more info/outputs or anything else. I am really looking forward to be able to connect to inet using Networkmanager-0.8

Thank you

You are providing very little information. Could you please:

- Reboot your machine
- Make sure your 'modem' is unplugged
- Now execute as root:
  - /etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop
  - dmesg -c
  - NetworkManager --no-daemon # this command will hang (not return) and generate output
- Plug in your modem (phone right?) and *try* to connect with nm-applet
- Provide the output of:
  - the "NetworkManager --no-daemon" command you executed earlier
  - the "dmesg" command (if any)

I'm not a gentoo dev, but this could be important information to help debug this.

I will provide those info but I also have other problems with latest networkmanage + nm-applet

Running nm-applet fails with:
* (nm-applet:27596): WARNING **: <WARN>  request_name(): Could not acquire the NetworkManagerUserSettings service.
Error: (9) Connection ":1.7" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings" due to security policies in the configuration file

I also run the following command as networkmanager suggests:
polkit-auth --grant org.freedesktop.network-manager-settings.system.modify --user hwoarang

Please do:

revdep-rebuild -i
emerge -q1 networkmanager dbus glib

Then try again (see if you can start nm-applet and also post NetworkManager --no-daemon output if it all fails).

It worked :)

Seems like my configuration was completely broken

I appreciate your help
