Description Patrik Kullman 2002-05-28 16:47:17 UTC
If connecting to a site with flash or movie content, galeon takes a while until
it blocks the audio output for other programs such as xmms/mpg123/mplayer.
Also, galeon hangs, and I have to use the 9-signal to kill it. After killing it,
the block on audio output is gone.

The other programs doesn't hang, they just freeze right before playing the
audiofile. (Unless repeatedly forced to play a file.)

I have a Soundblaster Live so I can't properly debug this issue as it hides it
from me ;) Also, if I remember correctly, it sounds like an older issue we had
with esound and alsa (I don't use either).

Bumping back to bug-wranglers

I too have an SBLIVE and running alsa, but I just tried galeon and xmms running
audio at the same time... It works fine here. This is with galeon 1.2.5 and
xmms 1.2.7.

Bumping back to bug-wranglers for comments.

What window manager are you using?

I have this problem when running non-KDE apps under KDE, I need to run them
using artsdsp or enable arts compatibility for the app (if it has it).

Xmms has an arts output plugin.

Another option if you are using kde is to set the timeout on the arts server to
something really low (like 1 sec) in the control panel.

Actually, I do remember a flaw in fluxbox with the event handler that hasn't
been fixed yet. Patrik: Are you running fluxbox?
Comment 5 Patrik Kullman 2002-06-15 08:16:32 UTC
Yes, I am running fluxbox, and it's the nspluginviewer that hangs the audio.

Now thought, the netscape-flash crashes my version of galeon
(1.2.5)/mozilla(1.0), so I haven't been able to try it out.
Comment 6 Spider (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-29 13:35:52 UTC
hmm.. This appears to be a bug with the flash plugin and not with galeon..
also, if its OSS then it is supposed to block audio on access.

This doesn't look like a gentoo specific problem, closing.
