A brief guide for users who are interested in a little more advanced harddisk partitioning
Can we also have a chapter in this doc about EVMS and a (not so) brief how-to on that?
no problem. I will try to have the draft ready by next week
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-fs12/ The above is an EVMS guide written by drobbins that may be of use to you.
Don't copy the entire drobbins article into your guide, otherwise we can have issues with the cc-by-sa license. It is however fine to use parts of it since it is common knowledge.
after a second thought, I think EVMS should be seperated with this guide. Any ideas?
This howto will be hold for a week, Midterm :( anyway, this is what I've got so far, any corrections and comments will be appreciated.. here(bugziall) or directly to my mail
oops.. here's the link: http://dev.gentoo.org/~bennyc/work/partition-howto.html
Created attachment 19524 [details, diff] Some corrections Looks promising. Some minor corrections for you. FYI, the install guide mentions a /boot partition of 64Mb if using a journalled fs which is why I changed your 32 into 64. IMHO 32 is well enough in all cases. One of my boxen has 20 kernels in /boot + grub + pxe files and is only 23Mb
Handbook already has the partitioning howto, this will be marked as "LATER" (pokes swift)
Handbook is online. Marking as CLOSED.
