Description Deftochino 2003-10-14 16:06:34 UTC
When I start gmplayer, all of the borders and such (that which visibly belongs
to metacity -- GNOME's window manager) disappear, then gmplayer is loaded after
which the borders (metacity) reappears. The fact that metacity may be crashing
and restarting here is supported by the fact that a 'ps -ax' in the terminal
reveals that the process ID's of metacity change before and after (probably
indicating a kill and restart).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in GNOME 2.4 with metacity as the window manager.
2. Start gmplayer either from the menu or the terminal.

Actual Results:
Metacity has been restarted and visibly all of the windows are shifted a small
amount to the bottom and right.

Expected Results:
It should have started normally without having to kill and restart metacity.

x11-wm/metacity-2.6.1, gnome-base/gnome-2.4, and media-video/mplayer-0.92 (with
"gtk2" USE flag)

The above is my 'emerge info' and in regard to emerging the latest mplayer,

the latest version (~x86) of mplayer tonight and report back.

Same problem here since I upgraded to mplayer-0.92 and gnome-2.4

Sometimes Metacity won't even reload.

Comment 4 Mike Newton 2003-11-06 23:31:02 UTC
When metacity crashes in this instance, and Gnome 2.4 is logged out, the
session is saved sans metacity. This causes every subsequent login to be
without a windowmanager.

I finally had some time to emerge the newest mplayer (mplayer-1.0_pre2.ebuild)
in portage, and still now luck. I am having the same issue as I had with
the previous version of mplayer. Maybe this has something to do with the
implementation of gmplayer, which I believe is the most likely source of
this problem. Running mplayer over the console works perfectly, its just
that gmplayer will not work properly.
Comment 6 Deftochino 2003-11-19 13:21:07 UTC
Updating to the newest metacity (2.6.2) solved this problem for me.
