I'm using local mail-mta/sendmail (currently 8.14.4) as a mail server and thunderbird as mail client (authorised delivery, simple authentification is used). Update mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird from 2.0.0.23 to 3.0.3 breaked the authentification (mozilla-thunderbird-3.0.3, unlike 2.0.0.23 fails to auth using simple method). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up MTA, supporting simple auth method; 2. Install mozilla-thunderbird-3.0.3 (and configure it to use MTA configured at step #1). 3. Enter valid password and see an error. Actual Results: Authentification error Expected Results: Seccessful authentification $ emerge --info Portage 2.1.7.17 (default/linux/x86/10.0, gcc-4.3.4, glibc-2.10.1-r1, 2.6.30-gentoo-r88 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.30-gentoo-r88-i686-Intel-R-_Pentium-R-_4_CPU_3.00GHz-with-gentoo-1.12.13 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 22 Mar 2010 01:45:02 +0000 app-shells/bash: 4.0_p35 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.10 dev-lang/python: 2.6.4-r1 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4-r3 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.13 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r3, 1.10.3, 1.11.1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc: 4.3.4 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.30-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" ACCEPT_LICENSE="* -@EULA" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /etc/env.d/50glib2 /usr/share/X11/xkb /var/bind" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="assume-digests buildsyspkg collision-protect distlocks fixpackages news parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.corbina.net/pub/Linux/gentoo/ ftp://mirror.aiya.ru/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.org.kemsu.ru/gentoo/ http://ftp.chg.ru/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.chg.ru/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/" LANG="ru_RU.KOI8-R" LC_ALL="" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="ru en" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage-ftn" SYNC="rsync://rsync.org.kemsu.ru/gentoo rsync://rsync.asia.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage rsync://mirror.aiya.ru/gentoo" USE="X a52 ac3 acl alsa avi berkdb bzip2 cdr cli cracklib crypt cups cxx dbus dri dvd flac fortran gdbm gif gtk iconv jpeg jpeg2k modules mp3 mudflap ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg openmp pam pcre perl png pppd python qt3support readline reflection session spl ssl sysfs tcpd vorbis x86 xcb xorg xulrunner zlib" ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="ru en" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="sis" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
You will need to provide the log from your mail server. If you are not comfortable with it being on the bug report feel free to email it to me directly for review.
The log is: Mar 29 08:56:15 ftn sendmail[3682]: alias database /etc/mail/aliases rebuilt by root Mar 29 08:56:15 ftn sendmail[3682]: /etc/mail/aliases: 23 aliases, longest 17 bytes, 259 bytes total Mar 29 08:56:15 ftn sm-mta[3687]: starting daemon (8.14.4): SMTP+queueing@00:30:00 Mar 29 08:56:15 ftn sm-cm[3690]: starting daemon (8.14.4): queueing@00:30:00 Send attemp with authorising on mail server: Mar 29 14:52:53 ftn sm-mta[9735]: o2TAqrsO009735: localhost [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA And success relay attemp (without authorisation): Mar 29 14:54:07 ftn sm-mta[9740]: o2TAs6nu009740: from=<me@mydomain.ru>, size=1186, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<4BB086CE.5080808@mydomain.ru>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost [127.0.0.1] Mar 29 14:54:12 ftn sm-mta[9742]: o2TAs6nu009740: to=<postmaster@mydomain.ru>, delay=00:00:05, xdelay=00:00:05, mailer=smtp, pri=121186, relay=smtp.mydomain.ru. [XXX.XXX.XXX.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (o2TAsC45068409 Message accepted for delivery) I'm not shure about the localization of this problem. But the same Thunderbird successfully authorised at sendmail-8.14.2 on another (FreeBSD) server. My sendmail is mail-mta/sendmail-8.14.4(mbox ssl tcpd -ipv6 -ldap -mailwrapper -nis -sasl -sockets)
net-mail : If someone could comment on this would be appreciated. I highly doubt it being a thunderbird bug.
Mozilla team will need much more info and someone from netmail team that can assist with resolving the problem, I have spoken with upstream and they are not seeing the issue within any of the test cases they are using.
(In reply to comment #4) > Mozilla team will need much more info and someone from netmail team that can > assist with resolving the problem, I have spoken with upstream and they are not > seeing the issue within any of the test cases they are using. > Just yesterday I've seen the same problem with Thunderbird 3.1.4 (Gentoo build) and built-in sendmail (8.14.4) of FreeBSD 7.3 RELEASE. May be it is not exactly described issue, but something with password handling is incorrect. Please forward me to a proper upstream bugzilla. And, please, ask me what additional info could need the Mozilla Team.
Does this also happen with thunderbird-9.0?
Please test tb-10, if you can still duplicate please reopen with updated info.
