!!! ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-3.2.3-r2 failed. !!! Function src_compile, Line 371, Exitcode 2 !!! (no error message) I get this when doing emerge -u system. I've upgraded portage with emerge sync. I've also upgraded the portage binary with emerge -u portage. Further up I notice: /var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.2.3-r2/work/build/i586-pc-linux-gnu/libstdc++- v3/include/bits/stl_ alloc.h:517: Internal compiler error in pop_binding, at cp/decl.c:1178 Please submit a full bug report, with preprocessed source if appropriate. See <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions. make[4]: *** [codecvt.lo] Error 1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. sudo emerge sync 2. sudo emerge -u portage (replace conf files if instructed) 3. sudo emerge -u system This also fails if I do update world since it does update system first. I tried anyway though. Actual Results: It starts compiling gcc and then gives that error after a while. Expected Results: Continued updating system I would guess.... i don't know whether my problem is related, but i'm using gcc-3.2.3-r1 and it fails to compile almost any ebuild (reproducible, tested with kernel 2.4.22 and 2.6.0-test7). it also fails to compile gcc-3.2.3-r2, so i'm stuck now! what can i do? any work-around/quickfix? help greatly appreciated. for me, this bug is definitely a *blocker*.
the reason for my problem: kernel 2.6.0-test7 was broken (see thread http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0310.1/1748.html) currently i'm emerging gcc with 2.4.22 again and so far it works (must have been bad luck when i tested it with 2.4.22 and it didn't work) sorry for bothering.
Scott: Please try gcc-3.2.3-r2, or a newer gcc, like gcc-3.3.2 and see if this is still a problem for you.
seems to be fixed
