This is an new ebuild to be able to use any crypto-fs running kernel-2.4 and util-linux-2.12. It's based on the current prepatch-vanilla-sources and cryptoloop-jari. See also Bug 25192 to get an idea why this new ebuild is needed.

From what I saw in the other thread, cryptoloop seems to have found a resolution. Cryptoloop is being phased out in favor of dm-crypt. Are these sources really necessary?

Not sure, i fthey found a solution for everyone needs. The bad thing about cryptoloop in gentoo is, that there is no option to disbale ot beside the very common crypt use flag. I'm really disappointed that gentoo is still ignoring the resulting problems...

Anyway, this source here is pretty outdated now and as long there seems to be no interesst from other parties i'll close this.

The problem really isn't with Gentoo. The kernel guys change the interface to all of the crypto stuff with every releases it seems. Everyone wants to implement it in a different way. It's just luck of the draw which API gets implemented.
