Description Jure Repinc 2010-03-13 14:40:33 UTC
Serna Free XML editor is an easy-to-use open source WYSIWYG XML editor for those who wish to smoothly adopt the XML technology. Indeed, Serna Free is the most powerful among free and open source XML editors for WYSIWYG authoring.

Most people will find Serna Free XML content editor easy to use as it hides all the complexities of the underlying XML technology. Authors with virtually no XML experience can easily start working with structured XML content in a familiar environment that looks much like a conventional word processor.

Ebuild for binary version of serna-free

Serna-free comes as binary and as source. The ebuild uses the binary version.

The ebuild works and serna is worth to look at. However the ebuild needs to be improved to be cleaner. The steps the serna post installer does should be moved to the ebuild, so all files installed will be registered. And of course the whole ebuild should be cleaned.

Why binary? Are there any problems with compiling from source? I'm also interested to test it with docbook but my ebuild abilities are very low, yet.
Thank you and request for portage from me too

The ebuild using the source code is obviously also my ultimate goal.

But many other packages depend on the serna-free source code and many are not available in portage. This means for those packages somebody would also have to write ebuilds. This means much more work to get serna-free with the source code ebuild.

Before I get motivated to do this, I want to see if serna free is worth investing that amount of work and time. Of course I would also appreciate if somebody else would do it.

First I want to learn serna-free to see if it fits my needs. A nice binary ebuild is for that a good intermediate step.

Currently my binary ebuild is not clean yet, since it calls the post installer. But it works well. If I find time I will clean it or appreciate if somebody else cleans it.

Until now I'm happy with serna-free, I use it for docbook and want to use it for my XML data as well.

ebuild without post installer

I modified the ebuild, so the dirty post installer is removed. If you have used my first ebuild and now update you get file collisions due to the first not clean version of my ebuild. Just delete those orphan files from the first installation manually. What the ebuild does should be clean, considering having a binary ebuild. However the ebuild should now be cleaned looking at the gentoo ebuild guidelines, as replacing shell commands with helper calls.
