Description Alberto Ornaghi 2003-10-10 06:06:11 UTC
I think it should be possible to install freeswan even if the kernel is not
gentoo-source.

it is possible to do that with make oldmod && make minstall and it works on
vanilla kernel.

is it possible ?

Yes, but we are not the maintainers of the vanilla-kernel so such a request
would need to go upstream to the kernel developers.
Comment 2 Alberto Ornaghi 2003-10-15 07:03:09 UTC
I know, but why not installing the module even if the running kernel is not
gentoo-sources ?
since freeswan modules compile fine agains vanilla-kernel, I don't see the
problem to compile it on that kernel.

IMHO it will be usefull to insert a check in the ebuild and if the kernel
is not gentoo-source do a make oldmod && make minstall

what do you think about it ?

If you make an ebuild for it, it's at least more likely to happen. Not to
say that it will happen, but well if you think it's worth it, do the work
for it.

Ahem, both are already in net-misc/...
