Description Fab 2010-03-02 17:22:30 UTC
Hi,

I ran an emerge -uDN world today. The system is stable x86.

dev-python/sip was upgraded from 4.9.3-r1 to 4.10.
net-print/hplip was upgraded from 3.9.10 to 3.9.12-r1.

When the update was completed, I logout and login to check the hp-systray status.
I got the following error in ~/.xsession-errors :

> Traceback (most recent call last):
>  File "/usr/bin/hp-systray", line 106, in <module>
>    import ui4.systemtray as systray
>  File "/usr/share/hplip/ui4/systemtray.py", line 36, in <module>
>    from ui_utils import *
>  File "/usr/share/hplip/ui4/ui_utils.py", line 34, in <module>
>    from PyQt4.QtCore import *
> RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v7.0 but the PyQt4.QtCore module requires API v6.0

I found an upstream bug report, see URL.

Downgrading to =dev-python/sip-4.9.3-r1 solve the problem.

Reproducible: Always

I think this is directly caused by bad stabilization in...

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301105#c3

where all of the pkgs should have went stable together

Yep, sip and PyQt4 should have gone stable together. However the reporter hasn't followed the instructions that sip-4.10 prints in pkg_postinst(), i.e. recompile PyQt4.
Comment 3 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-03-03 06:25:29 UTC
In a binary distro you have no choice but to downgrade, but in Gentoo you should have re-emerged PyQt4, as the pkg_postinst message says. It seems to work on my system.

Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> from PyQt4.QtCore import *
>>>

Sorry for the problem.

netfab, does remerge of PyQt4 solve your problem?

Yes. I simply missed this message. I don't understand why since I receive everything in my mailbox, but that's another problem. Sorry for disturbing. Closed as invalid.
