Using the current eclass/font.eclass, media-fonts/dejavu can not be emerged due to the failing installation of the docs files in font_src_install().

The current upstream font.eclass (CVS revision 1.48) is fixed with a
pushd "${FONT_S}" > /dev/null
in line 112 for the counterpart "popd ..." some lines below.

media-fonts/dejavu can be emerged again since font.eclass is directly taken from gx86 (r57152), thanks!
