Description iceonfire29 2010-02-27 03:35:14 UTC
Hi

I installed kernel-2.6.31-r10 in my system and after booting into it i noticed that my cpu fan never worked since that wich made my cpu temperature raise. I had the same problem also with revisions 6 ans 8 of 2.6.31, only kernel-2.6.30-r8 and older versions can make my cpu fan run.

Did you try the latest ~gentoo-sources?

Also did you use lm_sensors? Which version?
Comment 5 George Kadianakis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-03-01 11:52:28 UTC
Ehm, are you sure that your CPU fan is the one that's not working?
I really don't think that a modern PC can boot without a CPU fan functioning.

Maybe you are confusing it with the fan in the back of the tower?
What CPU temp are you getting if you check in the BIOS or with software sensors of some kind?

By the way, sorry I forget to mention that I am using gentoo on a laptop acer aspire (Inte Celeron Mobile)

I have lm_sensors-2.10,7 with sensord USE flag enabled

Your kernel recognizes the cooling device aka the CPU fan

acpi device:3c: registered as cooling_device0

please provide us with a sensors output

I suspect two things

1) hardware issue
2) wrong temp values on sensors, hence cpu fan doesn't need to operate

Sensors output:

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +49 C (high = +100 C)

Hey, could you try upgrading your BIOS to the latest official version?
