Step #13 in the green box, where it says, "export CONFIG_PROTECT="-*" emerge -u
system", this doesn't work.  Removing 'export' fixes it.

Sigh. We ran into this earlier. There was some internal debate about whether
to set CONFIG_PROTECT in the enviorment with export or whether to leave it
for just this one line. It ended up being that when it came time for me to
fix, I just left the line the way it was. However, I think that this patch
is a reasonable fix. Reviewed with the Imperial Stamp of Approval.
