Logging in to the yahoo messenger network using GAIM or centericq compiled for ppc architecture returns: Username and Password mismatch (centericq-4.9.7 version ) Password incorrect (gaim-0.70-r2 version ) there seems to be a problem storing the password string (i dunno... im just a phreakin newbie) and thus sending the yahoo server some bogus string. what can be done?
This is a gaim/centericq issue. Yahoo! are making protocol changes to try and eliminate 3rd party clients. Sadly, there is little that can be done about it, and anything that can be done relates directly to gaim/centericq/other-yahoo!-im-clients. This is not a Gentoo issue. This bug should be marked as closed/invalid.
I disagree with Charles, this is definitely a bug. This happens for me on gaim on ppc, but for gaim on x86 it works fine. There is something specific to the ppc architecture that is causing problems I think.
I also wanted to tell charles the fact that both packages (centericq, gaim) have no problems on x86 machines. so that i think its an architecture related problem. should the ebuild/package developers be in charge for remedying that problem? or is it gentoo-ppc-developer stuff? i dont know. i just have 1 yahoo im contact so its not such a big deal for me. but i think it cant be such a huge problem with the ebuilds considering the fact that both work perfectly on x86.
the new version of gaim : 0.71, has obviously eradicated that problem centericq hasnt remedied that bug. it seems that it was charles who was right after all...
Yes I confirm that it is fixed in 0.71. 0.70 had the yahoo fixes originally. 0.71 did some other login logic with it as well. So yes I would recommend closing this bug as CANTFIX or INVALID.
Marked invalid was an upstream issue and got solved upstream
