I *think* this is also blocking me from reinstalling openoffice (it won't build, and I suspect it's lucene that's the cause) after the jpeg-7 to jpeg-8 upgrade.
Output of `emerge --info` says that you have only Python 2.5 and 2.6, but the error message shows path from Python 2.4. You should run python-updater and remove all remnants of Python 2.4 (including /usr/lib/python2.4 directory).
