Description Adam Chodorowski 2003-10-06 13:25:20 UTC
LiveCD 1.4rc4 for sparc64 fails to boot on Ultra 1 (the regular, non-enterprise
edition). It works up until SCSI initialization, at which point the following is
displayed repeatedly ad infinitum:

esp0: SCSI bus reset interrupt
esp0: SCSI bus reset interrupt
esp0: disconnect, resetting bus
esp0: resetting scsi bus

A self-compiled 2.4.20 kernel (sparc-sources) boots fine, so it seems to be an
issue with the configuration of the livecd kernel. However, since I managed to
nuke the SILO installation on the machine, it's slightly annoying not being able
to boot of CDROM...

Reproducible: Always

Please try one of the newer LiveCD available in /gentoo/experimental/sparc/livecd/sparc64

If you try one of the LiveCDs from http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/experimental/sparc/livecd/sparc64/,
particularly the later ones, does it boot for you?

Need more info before I can proceed. Feel free to re-open.

Thanks.

After having tried almost all the different LiveCD's without any success, I changed the CDROM drive (mostly by chance, because I wanted to boot from a CDRW which this drive couldn't read) and then it worked fine! So it seems it was a hardware problem with the old Apple SCSI CDROM I was using.

Sorry for the noise.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
