Description Tomasz Golinski 2010-02-12 23:19:48 UTC
The problem occurs with several recent wine versions. Simple applications/games work ok, but more complex do not. I have this problem eg. with Star Wars Knights of Old Republic and Railroad Tycoon 3 - both crash after several seconds. Both game are rated gold/platinum and since not only wine crashes but whole PC, so I guess there is some other underlying problem. I also suppose that it is not a hardware problem since I cannot reproduce it outside wine using linux games or win games on windows. These games used to run ok on my system but I cannot point to any specific moment when the problem appeared.

Wine USE="X alsa dbus gecko lcms ncurses opengl perl png ssl threads truetype xml"

I have x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-195.36.03, sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.32-r1, x11-base/xorg-server-1.7.4 but tried downgrading and the problem was still there. My graphic board is geforce 8800gt. Neither CPU nor GPU is overclocked.

Reproducible: Always

userspace programs should not make computers reboot. check the hardware or the kernel, but i highly doubt wine or the games it runs is to blame.
Comment 2 haarp 2010-02-19 22:31:53 UTC
I highly suspect the nvidia drivers to be the culprit here
