Seeing that binutils-2.18-r1 are stable (and you have it installed),
any reason why didn't you switch ?

Interesting, I have binutils-2.18-r3 installed, but didn't know I wasn't using it.

On a hunch, I found the "binutils-config" command (of which I was previously unaware) and it told me that I was still using binutils 2.16.1.

After using binutils-config to set my binutils to 2.18-r3, x264 compiled just fine.

Thanks!
