Description Michael David Mullins 2003-10-04 16:53:35 UTC
I tried to emerge lyx twice. The first as a user and 'su'ing. It emerged 11 of the 12 packages my system needed, but failed to emerg lyx itself. It simply crashed terminal, taking all my desktop panels with it, requiring me to use The Big Red Button in order to restart. I then tried the same thing as root. While there was only the one package to install(no dependencies), it also crashed, this time taking X11 with it. I cannot give you a printout of what went wrong, because emerge crashed the console before I could write it down. I see there are many other problems with the emerge, but don't know which, if any of the solutions offered I should try. Again, I can trace the problem but the make-trail simply dissapears. Any suggestions?

we need some logs i think. does this occur if you shutdown X and emerge from
a console ? does the cpu activity continue, or does the system simply become
unresponsive ?
