Description Steven Wagner 2003-10-02 23:49:26 UTC
This refers to bug 9689 which should be reopened.

The same problem from but 9689 is again a problem in gnome 2.4. If the only solution is to change the preferences so that the users aren't given this option, shouldn't that preference be set as the default. Gentoo policy states that all configuration should be done for the user ahead of time so that when the user installs a package it should just work. The option especially should be turned off it is useless and confusing behavior to the user.

hmhm ? policy ? this menu shouldn't come up on a default install and if it
does then it is broken.

Looks like the patch is applied anymore for whatever reason.. wonder when
that happened ?
Comment 2 Steven Wagner 2003-10-03 13:26:25 UTC
Every single person I could find in #gentoo all say the problem exists.
Comment 3 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-03 13:52:32 UTC
i believe it does, as said the patch that should take care of this got removed
by someone by accident i think.

Regarding policy, this is from the Ebuild documentation for developers.

"Remember, the packages that you commit must be ready "out of the box" for
end users when commited as stable. Make sure that you have a good set of
default settings that will satisfy the majority of systems and users that
will use your package. "
