This is a known issue as documented on the firebug web site. http://blog.getfirebug.com/2010/01/19/64-bit-firefox-on-linux-crashes-with-firebug-1-5-0/

This has been filed as a mozilla patch
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=510040

Double checking that this will be included in the next firefox release.

1.start firefox
2.install firebug
3.start firebug

core dumps
