Description Eliana 2010-01-20 17:16:06 UTC
Every time I press any multimedia key (play/pause, mute, next track, stop, etc...), all graphical user interface crashes, and the kde login manager appears again. I have a normal dell keyboard, nothing fancy.

After upgrading to KDE4 all keys worked perfectly. I suspect that it stopped working after removing the device-mapper (device-mapper vs. udev block http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284222). I've 'emerge -uDNav world' some times after that.

Any idea what is happening? Do you know of any way I can get more info?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Press any multimedia key
Actual Results:
All GUI crashes and KDE restarts

Expected Results:
The multimedia key does its function (mute, lower volume, etc..) and all applications continue alive.

Update:
I re-emerged the x11-base/xorg-server and the x11-drivers/(linuxwacom nvidia-drivers xf86-input-evdev xf86-input-keyboard xf86-input-mouse xf86-input-synaptics).  It did not help.

One last thing: The keyboard is USB.
Anyone any idea?

Anyone??
Comment 3 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2010-03-15 20:03:37 UTC
Please install another windowmanager (e.g. fvwm or twm) and test if X crashes there as well.

If yes -> X problem
If no -> KDE problem

Comment 4 Eliana 2010-03-30 14:09:52 UTC
Update:
I upgraded xorg-server to 1.7.6 (masked for amd64) and it does not crash anymore.
It seems to be related to 64bit + usb keyboard + xorg-server < 1.7.5 (tested on another machine).

Solved by unseen forces...
