AMD64 Arch Tester Report

Compile/Installs: OK
Functionality: not tested.

Emerge (USE) variants:
1) USE="" emerge =app-editors/gentoo-editor-2

Question: Is it relevant to get extra description/information (besides "Auxiliary editor script") about this package? Because I couldn't get any info about it and pointing to www.gentoo.org (HOMEPAGE) leads to nothing in particular.

It's simply a wrapper script that will execute ${EDITOR}, intended for packages like "sudo" that need a default editor. You can test functionality with "/usr/libexec/gentoo-editor <file>", but it's not intended to be executed directly by users. So I don't think we need documentation that goes beyond the comments in the script.

> and pointing to www.gentoo.org (HOMEPAGE) leads to nothing in particular.

Yes, but we need a non-empty value as its HOMEPAGE.
Comment 7 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-26 01:07:23 UTC
Stable for HPPA.

Stable on amd64

All arches done

That would make a nice description for portage.

True, but just think - by typing 7 words, one could enable thousands of people people to determine what they are installing without having to download the sources first in order to find out.

If the description contained "a wrapper script that will execute ${EDITOR}", then nobody would be looking for a home page.

That's a good idea. I've updated the DESCRIPTION to "Wrapper script that will execute EDITOR" (avoiding the dollar sign).
