I have the same problem. Tested on 2 different machines, using 2 different portage mirrors, so this is a real problem, not only some broken mirror.

I have the latest portage, and this bug still occurs.
Do you mean "portage" (the package manager) is up to date or your tree is in sync ;) Of course you have to run `emerge --sync`. If you really think your tree is in sync with latest state then please provide more information of your problem.

Portage mirrors _should_ sync every 30 minutes, but I don't think that is always the case. Verify the /usr/portage/metadata/timestamp with the timestamp above, and change mirror if it isn't up to date.
