sys-apps/coreutils-8.3 fails to emerge build log is included.. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge coreutils-8.3
Created attachment 215765 [details] build.log
Please also append emerge --info This seems like a parallel-make problem to me? Can you reproduce it time after time, with it failing like that? 8.3 installed just fine for me ...

but yes i can emerge this all day long and get the same error.
setting MAKEOPTS="-j1" works for me.
(In reply to comment #5) > setting MAKEOPTS="-j1" works for me. > yea i tried that after viktor mentioned the parallel build, but still same error
Oops, sorry my bad wrong version. coreutils-8.3 on ~x86 still fails with MAKEOPTS="-j1"

I can confirm this compile error with glibc-2.9_p20081201-r5 (from hardened overlay). Upgrading glibc to 2.11-r1 allowed me to compile coreutils-8.3
(In reply to comment #9) > Upgrading glibc to 2.11-r1 allowed me to compile coreutils-8.3 same glibc2.11 also allowed for this to compile. so i would assume the ebuild maintainers need to make coreutils-8.3 depend on glibc2.11.. someone give them a little nudging :P
What about with 2.10.1? That's the next stable version it seems, so it'd be excessive to restrict it 2.11
(In reply to comment #11) > What about with 2.10.1? That's the next stable version it seems, so it'd be > excessive to restrict it 2.11 > indeed it would, my selective reading 'skipped' over those ebuilds when i was looking in the directory. lol. :x
but no one has actually tested glibc-2.10*
(In reply to comment #13) > but no one has actually tested glibc-2.10* > Unless someone else replies before I wake up I'll do it.
(In reply to comment #14) > (In reply to comment #13) > > but no one has actually tested glibc-2.10* > > > Unless someone else replies before I wake up I'll do it. > I couldn't sleep before I tried this! ;P It works with =sys-libs/glibc-2.10.1-r1 (never tried w/ 2.9* though)
What about adding the patch from: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.coreutils.bugs/19568 ?
the discussion is still going on. i'm not going to throw a random patch in until upstream has committed it. this isnt a terrible critical issue since very few people are affected by it.
coreutils-8.4 fixes this problem
