Yes, of course, performance issues are to be resolved upstream. But: Wouldn't it be possible to reinstate the ebuilds for jpeg-6b? To allow users to decide for themselves whether they want a bleeding-edge system or a fast one. Again, yes I know, old ebuilds can be retrieved from CVS but this is kind of cumbersome and not very user friendly. Kind regards, Urs Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Take current, stable Gentoo system 2. Make sure it has jpeg-7 3. Install and run media-tv/xbmc Actual Results: Image transitions, especially for background images and fanart, take several seconds. Expected Results: Image transitions should be near instantaneous. After downgrading to jpeg-6b-r8 image transitions were noticeably faster.
Everything in tree should work by now with jpeg-7 except some minor issues with mjpegtools and jpeg2yuv (soon to be resolved). The ebuild won't be restored for upstream performance problems.
