KDM doesn't accept LC_CTYPE on a full name obtained by chfn. When displaying login screen, there are bad characters in full name (when set) but other language specific strings are fine. It seems KDM assumes ISO8859-1 on chfn. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have LC_CTYPE set to cs_CZ.ISO8859-2 in /etc/profile and user "oldium", full name "Old?ich Jedli?ka" set by chfn. I have czech language selected for KDM. 2. In rc.conf have DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" 3. Start KDM by /etc/init.d/xdm start Actual Results: Full name displayed next to user name has two bad characters.
I see that full name example was not sent correctly to bugzilla too :-) Exchange "?" in full name by some ISO-8859-2 character.
I forgot the version info: KDE 3.1.4, Gentoo Linux 1.4.
Closing as an upstream bug. If this persists in kde 3.2, you should file a bug report at bugs.kde.org.
