emerge -uD world gives:

Calculating dependencies \ * Digest verification failed:

 * Expected: 1245

and update fails..

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --sync
2. emerge -uD world

Actual Results:  
Update not completed

Expected Results:  
Normal update

This was fixed by the addition of -r2 later on.
