Description Michael Mair-Keimberger (iamnr3) 2010-01-02 15:38:31 UTC
recently i've updated my server to the latest lvm2 version, where device-mapper was unmerged. I've also updated to the latest stable kernel. Since i'm using lvm2 (my system partition is on a lvm volume) i've also created a new initramfs. Booting the systm works quite fine. But now a facing a problem that everytime i'll make a backup (its a script which runs via cron) dmeventd crashs with the following massage:

tunafix ~ # lvcreate --size 20G --snapshot --name test /dev/vg/system
Unable to read from event server.
  vg-test: event registration failed: Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler
vg/snapshot0: snapshot segment monitoring function failed.
  Logical volume "test" created

also in dmesg i'll get a segmation fault:
dmeventd[2072]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f2cd8935e8c sp 00007fff5d830dd8 error 4 in libdevmapper-event-lvm2snapshot.so.2.02[7f2cd8935000+2000]

Actually it looks like the snapshot is created, because i still get weekley backups. (if i look into the tar files, everything looks ok). I don't know in how far this crash impact my backups...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. update to the latest stable lvm2 packages
2. try to make a snapshot via: lvcreate --size 20G --snapshot --name test /dev/vg/system

Actual Results:
snapshot will be created, but dmeventd crashs

Expected Results:
dmeventd shouldn't crash
