Description Luciano 2009-12-30 16:35:13 UTC
Firefox is crashing when opening embedded pdf files, after upgrading to v3.5.6. First, the area when the embedded file should show up will go grey, and processes npview and/or acroread become zombie processes. If I continue trying to reload the page and/or open other embedded pdfs, it eventually crashes.

Note I'm using amd64. Also, this occurs with the stable nspluginwraper v1.2.2

These are the messages I get when running from the shell:

(acroread:16082): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)' in cast to `GObject'

<< and then it crashes!>>

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
This doesn't seem to occur every time, but only when rapidly loading a new pdf in the same page. For example, at school I have access to a website www.myilibrary.com, where I can read ebooks, as pdf files. But the site only lets you view one page at a time (i.e. the embedded pdf is one page long). To read the next page, you navigate to it from an html frame, which reloads the embedded pdf frame.

Actual Results:
embedded pdf frame goes grey. After a while, trying to reload this/opening other tabs with pdf files will crash the browser.

Expected Results:
page should have reloaded properly.

Yes. I'm now using

and the same behaviour persists. I've started using mozplugger with evince, as a workaround. Actually works much better and loads up faster ...

I don't know, if this is related. But Firefox 3.6 crashes if I view a PDF file for the second time.

I'm using
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20091231
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-20091231

Comment 5 Fabio Rossi 2010-05-31 11:06:12 UTC
The problem appears only on amd64 systems where the acroread plugin is working via nspluginwrapper
Comment 6 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2010-12-30 03:09:06 UTC
nothing for mozilla to handle here.

No comments for a year and all involved packages have undergone major updates...
