ACK, same problem on my system!
Comment 2 John Steele Scott 2003-09-29 05:54:52 UTC
Looks like there is some file corruption somewhere.

digest-mplayer-0.92 and digest-mplayer-1.0_pre1-r1 have:
MD5 6c3f032ddf401ca522900291de03fee5 font-arial-iso-8859-1.tar.bz2 234810
MD5 0f9a5d53f836e2d2d2bde207dc641044 font-arial-iso-8859-2.tar.bz2 222677

I just downloaded those files directly from the mplayer site, and I get:
1ecd31d17b51f16332b1fcc7da36b312 font-arial-iso-8859-1.tar.bz2 234242
7b47904a925cf58ea546ca15f3df160c font-arial-iso-8859-2.tar.bz2 222208
Comment 3 nicholas 2003-09-29 06:10:01 UTC
I also have this problem, I think there is an incorrect Hash number in the
digest.

I substituted those to hash numbers (bottom ) into the digest file and was
able to emerge mplayer successfully

for quick workarounds...
Comment 5 Per Cederberg 2003-09-29 06:44:14 UTC
I think the problem is not data corruption, instead it looks like the files
have actually been updated (as file sizes also differ). So, the mplayer folks
might have fixed something in the fonts, although I couldn't find any mention
of it from a quick look at the mplayer web site.

Anyway, it looks like digests in portage needs to be corrected (if the new
files are safe).

I don't see why this would be a duplicate of 29640.
I deleted my mplayer dir in the portage tree. emerge synced. and it still
fails on the font-arial-iso-8859-2.tar.bz2 file.

please reopen this bug.

These md5s don't match the ones in cvs and rsync, current in cvs are:

Comment 20 Duke 2003-10-07 13:10:17 UTC
It seems like this is a pretty popular bug. While we wait for something
to be done about it, how about moving 0.92 into unstable, and downgrading
to the previous stable release?
Comment 21 Per Cederberg 2003-10-07 14:05:04 UTC
Sorry Duke, but there is a remote exploit in MPlayer 0.90 and 0.91 (the previous
stable versions). See http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ (second news item down) for
more information. I think we have to live with the workaround to regenerate
the digests (if portage hasn't already been fixed?)
Comment 22 Robert Shideleff 2003-10-07 14:12:20 UTC
I found that simply removing the font files in /usr/portage/distfiles (or
cleaning the directory completely) fixed the problem. Regenerating the digests
was not necessary.
Comment 23 Per Cederberg 2003-10-07 14:29:47 UTC
Ah, of course... You all have the old files from 0.90 and 0.91. Unfortunately
the MPlayer team updated these file without changing their name, hence causing
all the confusion and portage problems. Users never having downloaded MPlayer
or cleaning up their distfile directories should have no problems, though.

Maybe this actually points to a problem with portage, as in theory it could
detect the bad digests and attempt a download (once). I don't know if this
is desireable, though. Also, I know too little about ebuilds to understand
if it would be possible to add a hack to the 0.92 ebuild that deletes the
invalid packages to force new downloads. Martin?

All you need to do to work around this is:

rm /usr/portage/distfiles/font-arial-iso-8859-1.tar.bz2
rm /usr/portage/distfiles/font-arial-iso-8859-2.tar.bz2

You'll re-download the files and the md5's will match and you'll love things again.

Comment 34 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-22 22:30:23 UTC
what do you expect us to do exactly? it fails because *upstream* mplayer people screw with it. As far as I know, we have asked them to not, but it's their prerogative. We are sorry for the inconvenience, and yes, we can certainly document it.
Comment 35 Duke 2004-03-23 01:11:42 UTC
Would it not be possible to have the ebuild perform the tasks of the suggested workarounds? For mplayer-0.92, why not add a line in the ebuild which removes the font in distfiles, and downloads it again.
Comment 36 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-23 02:12:38 UTC
generally do:
emerge sync (or emerge-webrsync)
then emerge -fuDv --world
then you can upgrade
