Description Erik 2009-12-27 16:55:24 UTC
The manual for app-arch/lzma-utils-4.32.7, located at /usr/share/man/man1/lzma.1.bz2, documents the command line parameter "--to-stdout". But it does not work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
echo | lzma --to-stdout > /dev/null
Actual Results:
lzma: unrecognized option '--to-stdout'
Comment 1 Erik 2009-12-28 11:03:29 UTC
Of course another way to fix this would be to remove --to-stdout from the documentation. I do not know if it makes sense to have it. It seems like stdout implies the "to" because nothing can ever be "from" stdout. Or can it?

Which options do other stdout-using programs have?

I will assume for now that the top of the man page doesn't mention lzma(1) at all, but is in fact xz(1).

What do you mean? Are you trying to reproduce the bug and having problems? (How is the emerge --info, that you requested and I provided, relevant?)
Comment 6 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-02 02:57:12 UTC
Ok, I think I see the problem. The long form of the option is really '--stdout', as seen in 'lzma --help', so the man page is wrong.
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-01-02 03:29:26 UTC
lzma-utils is dead, and xz-utils doesnt seem to suffer this problem
