I am running an Intel Celeron 1.7 Ghx, and installing gentoo from stage2-x86-20030910.tar.bz2, I am NOT using GRP, I am following all the instructions, using recommended settings and commands. when I get to the genkernel command, I get the following: Gentoo Linux genkernel, version 1.8 Copyright 2003 Gentoo Technologies inc, Bob Johnson, Daniel Robbins Distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2 Settings make options: -j2 (from Portage/make.conf) source tree: /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r7 config type: gentoo (default) config loc: /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r7/kernel-config * Running "make mrproper"... [ ok ] * Running "make oldconfig"... [ ok ] * Logging to /var/log/genkernel.log... [ ok ] * Starting 2.4.20-gentoo-r7 build... [ ok ] * Running "make dep"... [ ok ] * Running "make bzImage"... Then it goes back the the root prompt, I looked in the log and found the following error: memory.c: In function `zap_page_range': memory.c:734: warning: implicit declaration of function `do_zap_page_range' memory.c: At top level: memory.c:743: warning: type mismatch with previous implicit declaration of `do_zap_page_range' memory.c:734: warning: previous implicit declaration of `do_zap_page_range' memory.c:743: warningL `do_zap_page_range' was previously implicitly declared to return `int'
please run memtest and watch out for bad memory
errors such as yours usually point to hardware problems, such as bad RAM or overheating. Make sure your case is properly ventilated, and run memtest on your RAM (memtest is available on the most recent LiveCDs)
