Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely manner. There are simply too many new packages. Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =) Thanks, On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team, Justin. freetux 0.5.1 is in the wild.
Created attachment 276365 [details] svn ebuild for freetuxtv freetuxtv 0.5.2 is in the overlay. But I don't think it currently depends on hal (if it ever does). ("hal" use flag can probably be dropped). Please also note that http://code.google.com/p/freetuxtv/issues/detail?id=122 makes the current ebuild broken since old versions of libnotify left the tree.. Attached is an initial attempt to create an ebuild for svn... but I don't know how to manage the ESVN_BOOTSTRAP and econf $(use_enable nls) combination.
FreetuxTV 0.6.6 is out since 2014-01-18. Has any dependency changed, or can we simply copy the 0.5.2 ebuild in sunrise overlay and update the version number? I can help testing any ebuild anyone wants to submit. Also, please change the summary using full package name media-tv/freetuxtv (and possibly update the version: 0.4.1 is VERY old).

(In reply to Matteo Modesti from comment #8) > Created attachment 385830 [details] > media-tv/freetuxtv-0.6.6 ebuild Forgot to write in the attachment comment... I created the media-tv/freetuxtv-0.6.6 ebuild based on the 0.5.2 one currently in sunrise. I added deps versions based on the README content and the changelog for 0.6.0, which states "Compilation with libnotify 0.7.x" and "Compilation with gtk3". I also fixed the license, which should be GPL-3, not GPL-2. Don't know if I have to update the first two (commented) header lines in the file, i.e. copyright year and GPL version, so I left them alone for now. Let me know what you think and if the build works for you. It emerges and executes correctly for me.

Ping. I've been using my media-tv/freetuxtv-0.6.6 ebuild for the past 9 months with no problem.
(In reply to Matteo Modesti from comment #11) > Ping. I've been using my media-tv/freetuxtv-0.6.6 ebuild for the past 9 > months with no problem. You might want to read about the sunrise project, where the package is currently placed. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Sunrise Feel free to join the project and start committing the version yourself. :)

I don't have much time, but as soon as I have enough I'm gonna read guides & FAQs and commit the ebuild. If the package is in Sunrise and the summary is about a very old version (0.4.1), shouldn't this bug be closed or at least the summary be updated (including the full package name media-tv/freetuxtv-0.6.6)? I can't do it or I would've already done it.
Hello, everyone. It seems that at least one ebuild related to this bug exists in the Sunrise overlay at the moment. However, I have to regretfully announce that after a long inactivity period the Sunrise project has been discontinued and the related overlay will be eventually removed. For this reason, I'd like to ask you to reevaluate the ebuilds and consider moving them. If you'd like to maintain a package from Sunrise in Gentoo, please take a look at our Proxy Maintainers [1] project. Please make sure to take ebuilds from the unreviewed developer Sunrise repository [2] rather than the -reviewed one, since the latter has not been updated for over a year. While at it, please note that: 1. Adding a package to Gentoo requires declaring yourself as an active maintainer for it. All bugs regarding the package will be assigned to you, and you will be expected to maintain it. 2. Some packages may not be suitable for addition anymore. While there's no strong rules that would prevent you from adding a package, it may be a bad idea to add old-unmaintained packages that will shortly result in a large number of bugs reported with no solution. If that is the case, please close the bug as RESOLVED/OBSOLETE to make it easier to find packages worth adding. 3. Some of the bugs were already closed as WONTFIX/OBSOLETE/... while the relevant ebuild was kept in Sunrise. If you disagree with the original decision, you still can add the ebuild via proxy-maint. 4. Pleaes note that many of the Sunrise ebuilds are old and may be buggy. If you decide to move them, please make sure to update/clean them up. The proxy-maint team will also review your ebuilds, therefore making sure they land in Gentoo in good quality. Once again, thank you for your contribution. We hope that you will still want to contribute to Gentoo, through proxy-maint or otherwise.
