after I have installed gentoo from livecd and have reboot a x86 with livecd kernel 2.6.24-r5 and then is on network by harddisk startup, and then running emerge --sync and been tols that there is a new portage and it is a good thing to emerge portage, is the new portage overwriting all working setup so after a reboot is the system not working longer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge -- sync + emerge portage 2. 3. Actual Results: Working setups is gone and nothing is working of files the worked before. Expected Results: Things and files of portage should jst been update and not overwritng the working things.
Attach actual error messages and emerge --info.
(In reply to comment #1) > Attach actual error messages and emerge --info. There is no actual error message and the emerge --info that time was made by livecd install. I first install by livecd adn reboot to harddisk boot up and the kernel is then 2.6.24-r5 made by the livecd, this is fine. Then I run emerge --sync and the make.conf is only as the livecd has made so the emerge.info file by emerge --info should be as the livecd has made and not is setting extra up on it, then I then run 'emerge --sync to get the linux synced for update, and the lot of old files is been deleted and new files and sources is comming in for portages, and at last the cync said 'there is a nwe portage avaliable , it is recommanded to get it'. then I run emerge portage, and the emerge fetching in a halv hour with lot of new files in the portage and look like some files is been overwritten. when I start up runs emerge --sync and emerge portage was my gentoo having this in it prompt: fido2 ^$ and it is connected to my gentoo router and got dns name as fido2.kofobbs.net, and then I so reboot the pc and after this is starts up and have (none) in the prompt and no fles and program is working, like ifconfig and mc + other program for checking and look the system through.
