Comment 1 Christoph Scheingraber 2003-09-26 05:44:12 UTC
Ok the Problem is, that the Gentoo Live Install CD "Basic" doesn´t recognize the
"AVM Fritz Card DSL", which is a ISDN and DSL Controller (like a internal
DSL/ISDN Modem).
If somebody try´s to build the newest Modul for the Card himself, he can´t do
this because you don´t even have a "basic" system before you get online with
this PCI Card. (can´t build the module without gcc)

The Drivers are lokated here:
ftp://ftp.avm.de/cardware/fritzcrd.dsl/linux/suse.82
There´s only a SuSE version, but that´s not the problem, because the precompiled
thing is for SuSE, but you can build the module on other distributions.
Module is called "fcdsl" when it´s done.

Info:
ftp://ftp.avm.de/cardware/fritzcrd.dsl/linux/suse.82/info.txt
ftp://ftp.avm.de/cardware/fritzcrd.dsl/linux/info.txt

In the Archive there´s a file called "install_passive-e.html", with instructions
to build the fcdsl module.
This Module integrates the card, so one can use the card with "pppd call (...)".

Greets,
thanks for you´re great work so far,
Christoph Scheingraber

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Buy a AVM Fritz Card DSL ;-)
2. Insert it into a PCI Slot
3. Put Gentoo LiveCD "Basic" in the CD-Rom drive and boot from it.
4. Try to get online with the AVM Fritz Card DSL, he doesn´t recognize it, and
one can´t build it, because there´s no Basic System.

Actual Results:
I tried to buikd the module, but it´s impossible without GCC and things.

Expected Results:
fcdsl module for capi for linux support with Friz Card DSL.

I should assign this bug report to Daniel:

>Can you put this in a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org, and assign
>to me. Point me to all the necessary resources for adding FRITZ support
>(if it's more than just kernel) and I'll see what I can do.

You`ll need Capi/Capi 2.0 for the Card in the Kernel.

There is an ebuild for the fritz cards in portage already: net-dialup/fcpci

I guess this just needs to be added to the livecd environment. I really should
know how to do that, but I'll leave that up to the pros ;)
Comment 4 Benjamin Judas (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-11 22:11:26 UTC
Is this still an issue?
Comment 5 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-05-14 13:27:25 UTC
zhen: please add net-dialup/fcpci to the .spec template for livecd-stage2 and resolve this bad boy... =]
Comment 6 John Davis (zhen) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-06-13 19:35:38 UTC
last time I tried fcpci it did not compile ...
Comment 7 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-09 12:09:23 UTC
Well, fcpci doesn't compile for me, and neither does fcdsl.

Perhaps if the versions in portage were updated and marked stable, then we could fulfill this request, but I doubt that is going to happen for 2004.3 unless the net-dialup guys get them updated in the next week. Adding them to the CC list so maybe we can get this resolved.
Comment 8 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-21 21:37:55 UTC
Well, I added fcdsl and fcapi to the distfiles for the Universal LiveCD. Essentially, one would have to do a non-networked install and from there, they would have to build the packages from the distfiles on the CD to get access to the Internet. It's the best I can do for 2004.3 so long as the packages don't build.
Comment 9 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:25:04 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
