Description Myk Taylor 2009-12-12 02:40:21 UTC
Although wpa_supplicant is ready to handle the Intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter, the firmware is missing from the /lib/firmware directory. Copying the firmware from another machine gets everything working, but is there a reason the firmware was not installed in the first place?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot the install CD (I used the amd64 minimal ISO)
2. attempt to run ifconfig wlan0
3. see the errors about missing firmware

Actual Results:
interface fails to come up

Expected Results:
interface should come up

Perhaps because nobody has ever requested it? Does the license allow for restribution?
Comment 2 Myk Taylor 2009-12-13 03:33:00 UTC
The license for net-wireless/iwl5000-ucode ("Intel") is the same as net-wireless/iwl4965-ucode and net-wireless/iwl3945-ucode, which are already on the install media. The license permits redistribution (quoted from /usr/portage/licenses/Intel):

This has been added to the x86/amd64 specs for the autobuilds and will show up in next week's builds.
