Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information. ^Cgiving up. xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): unexpected signal 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- take a look at the error line. it says "Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules//driversati_drv.so" is that not suppose to be /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so ??? really got frustrated and created a symbolic link driversati_drv.so in /usr/lib/xorg/modules, to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ati_drv.so and it worked!!! ( actually got another error which is Bug#:290739 and i fixed it ) seriously, this silly bug should be fixed. and i think >=xorg-server-1.7 should be masked.
I think you should check your system for broken symlinks (and similar problems).
Please attach your xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and emerge --info. Thanks
