On a system I mount PORTDIR and DISTDIR readonly from the local network with sshfs. When I want to emerge nvidia-drivers on this system (tried versions 180.60 and 185.18.36) emerge fails to unpack the sources files. I don't understand why. Because they're self-extracting files and need execute. You setup will fail on anything packaged that way
