Since the recent hal upgrade, synce-hal 0.13 has not worked. Please get newer synce-hal 0.13.1 from upstream and add to portage, it should fix the problems.
Did you try synce-hal-0.14 ?
No, it's incompatible with other 0.13.x components of synce. There is, however, a newer 0.13.1 available upstream.

I solved this ages ago, but sadly I cant remember how I solved it, I think I ended up recompiling of the hal stuff against the SynCE libraries. I'm now using 0,15 from the overlay.
