Description Kelly Black 2009-11-22 19:29:15 UTC
I am trying to do an update to my system. When I give the "emerge --update --deep world -p" command I get the following:

laptop ~ # emerge gst-plugins-meta -p

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

This package can not be installed. Please notify the 'media-plugins/gst-
plugins-meta-0.10-r2' package maintainer about this problem. ... done!

I have removed all of the gst and gstreamer builds and then reinstalled them using --dodeps. I still get the same problem.

From what I could find searching for issues there were indications that overlays could be a problem. I used to have the java overlay on the system so that I could use eclipse. I removed the overlay and removed the line from /etc/make.conf to read the extra overlay information. I still have the same problem.

Here is some information on my system:

repoman does not complain about any invalid atom or missing dependency. Please resync and try again.

I found the problem, and it was on my side. Sorry about that. It turned out to be a problem with media-plugins/gst-plugins-dvdread. A file in my /usr/portage/metadata/cache directory was corrupted. Syncing did not fix the problem. I tried removing the file and re-syncing, and that did not fix it. I tried fsck'ing the file system and found no problems. It was not until I deleted the whole metadata directory and re-synced that the problem was fixed.
