I upgraded to Chromium 4.0.248.0, and have recompiled it twice with the same results: when starting, I get "Segmentation fault". I've moved to the live (-9999) ebuild, which resolves the problem. I should note that this appears similar to bug 293338, but for the source version rather than the binary.
He, indeed I was wondering if this would happen. And you are on stable, as in bug #293338 I'll bump to 4.0.251.0 when upstream publishes the release file for it, as this version works with chromiumb-in
I have that version on my amd64 box, and I don't have any problem. # eix chromium | grep Installed Installed versions: 4.0.248.0(10:57:09 16/11/09) # uname -a Linux fujitsu 2.6.30-gentoo-r5 #4 Sat Nov 7 10:07:16 CET 2009 x86_64 AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3800+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux Do you have a log file for chromium where we can see the error?
I am stable, with an asterisk...I've unmasked quite a few packages for one reason or another. As for a logfile...I didn't do any specific logging, and unless there's a file somewhere I'm not aware of, I don't believe Chromium spit anything out either...when started from a command line, it appeared literally as: jrittenh-laptop ~ $ chromium Segmentation Fault jrittenh-laptop ~ $ I could revert back to 248, but it's a PITA to recompile Chromium (takes something like an hour, hour and a half on my machine). If it would be useful, I'd be willing to do this, but since it's not an issue in the current trunk release (as of yesterday afternoon) I'm not sure how useful that is.
Yes, compiling it takes time, and creating source tarballs too ;) Anyway, 4.0.251.0 added to tree, it should fix the problem, thanks for the report!
When you add the 4.0.251.0 ebuild, try to kill two bugs with one shot -> http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293666 Thank you.
Well I have a similar problem (thus probably related to the problem mentioned here). Chromium segfaults at start-up since 4.0.248.0, but the problem persists at the latest version (4.0.266.0). I will attach the strace output lateron. If I can help with a backtrace feel free to comment, but I will have to rebuild chromium first (nostrip, and gcc -g) to get useful information... Please reopen, or at least, tell me to open a new bug for the new version. Best regards jan
Created attachment 213681 [details] strace output from start-up trial This is the output of a trial to start-up chromium. mprotect() returns -1 (NOMEM), and so the browser segfaults.
From your strace: open("//usr/lib64/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1", O_RDONLY) = 3 That's the crash on startup with binary nvidia drivers/stable amd64: bug #295756 (not fixed yet, workaround: update nvidia drivers)
(In reply to comment #9) > That's the crash on startup with binary nvidia drivers/stable amd64: bug > #295756 (not fixed yet, workaround: update nvidia drivers) Thanks! I will have a look at that one. Regards Jan
