Big vote for this bug.  I currently use this package on multiple systems including: CHOST="i486-pc-linux-gnu", CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu", CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu".  My CFLAGS always contain: CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
(sometimes contains -march - but that changes from machine to machine)

It works on all of them very well, sees frequent usage on each platform. 

Additionally 3.9.10 will not build on the i486 system because of Bug #232766 so marking this stable will help me on those systems (a bunch of small-ish embedded style systems (Soekris net5501 FTW!)
