Without the /var/cache/man/catx directories the man command doesn't cache. IMHO the catx directories should be created in the man ebuild. If the default Gentoo behavoir is to have caching turned off, then use "NOCACHE" in /etc/man.conf. Then in my case I could comment out "NOCACHE" and the directories would be there. The directories would be (section numbers/names from /etc/man.conf): cat1 cat8 cat2 cat3 cat4 cat5 cat6 cat7 cat9 cattcl catn catl catp cato kindest regards tim
